EP 124: Who Can You Really Trust to Ensure Your Financial Success?

Have you ever looked forward to a meeting only for it to go terribly?

Well…

Last week I went to see a financial advisor.

I was looking forward to it all week.

Playing out fantasies in my mind of all the new and exciting wealth strategies that would come from it.

How did it go?

In summary = it was an absolute disaster.

Not because of anything the advisor did but…  because of me.

As far as financial advisors go, this one was excellent.

-He had all the credentials
-He looked the part
-He talked the talk
-He had proof of clients being successful with him

But…this is where I made the mistake.

I went to the meeting looking for a financial “owner”, not a financial “advisor”.

I was looking for someone to take over the responsibility and ownership of my wealth.

To make sure I’m being clear on this point.

I wasn’t looking for someone to advise me while I was being responsible for the result.

I went there wanting him to take responsibility and ownership.

There is a big difference.

In the business world, It would be like hiring a business coach and then taking no responsibility for my business.

Expecting them to take ownership of the end result.

I’m embarrassed I did it.
I would never do such a thing in business.

I had to ask myself, “Why?”

When I dug deeper.

This year has been the most challenging for me regarding wealth building.
I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of different options.

In addition to that, I have also been consumed by taking my business (the advertising agency) to the next level

The combination of being busy with business + a lot of options put me into complete overwhelm.
I didn’t have the brain space to make good wealth-building decisions.

I just wanted someone else to take care of it so I could get back to business.

Anyhow…

I left the meeting feeling like an idiot and went for a walk.

Annoyed at myself for not catching it earlier.

I was hard on myself for the first kilometre or so.
Giving myself a complete internal beatdown for not taking responsibility.

But…Eventually, I became grateful for the opportunity to learn from this experience.

Another opportunity to level up.
Another opportunity to take 100% responsibility for my life.
