EP 054: Coffee Chat: Making Better Investment Decisions (What We Are Doing)

On Monday night, I decided to cook dinner for the family.

I enjoy cooking.

As I spend my days creating things on a computer, it’s nice to make something in the real world that can be enjoyed with the family.

Found it to be very helpful in unwinding after a big day in business and investing.

Side note… follow me on social media if you want to see my food creations. 😉

Anyhow,

I wanted to make something new on Monday night and had been craving some Mexican food.
I thought, what could be better than some Fajitas and Mexican rice?

A dish I have never made before.

I followed a recipe closely and felt I executed the skills well.

Everything looked and smelt great.

However, when we sat down to eat…
It was not a pleasant experience.

It was purely a meal to get calories in.
There was NO enjoyment in the meal.

I felt bad for serving it to my wife.
She pretended to enjoy it.

Later in the night, she would admit it was terrible.
To be honest, I’m not exactly sure where I went wrong.

How did I mess this up so badly???
It was not an overly complicated meal to make.

Tuesday came around, and I was still bitter about it.

I had to redeem myself.
Tuesday became the night for “REDEMPTION Fajitas”.

During the day, I spent an hour on YouTube watching other people make Fajitas.
Assessing where their approach was different to mine.

I investigated different recipes VS mine.

I spent extra time at the supermarket to ensure I had the best ingredients.

I was not leaving things to chance after Monday night’s experience.

I wanted to ensure success and not make the mistakes of the previous night.

The result?

THE BEST DAMN FAJITAS I HAVE EVER HAD.

They were so good that my wife wants them weekly now.

The point of this story?

It’s ok to make mistakes.
It’s not ok to NOT learn from them.

This is especially true when it comes to business and investing.

If you make a mistake, go the extra mile to redeem yourself.

Anyhow,

This week on the podcast, Grant and I discuss our next investment moves and how we approach making better investment decisions.

I share my process of gathering information and taking responsibility for my actions.
(You might find it similar to the story above about the Fajitas.)

We also share what we are getting up to when it comes to investing for ourselves.

Also…Does anyone else enjoy cooking?

How do you unwind and relax?
